Philip K. Dick meets Palmer Eldritch.A couple of biographies 0n the man's life state that this really happened, but during Phil Dick's writing of The Man in the High Castle he was so strung out on amphetamines that he actually saw a giant gas mask in the sky. He believed this to be the embodiment of one of his own characters, Palmer Elditch, a malevolent God who seduces people into his own universe with the drug "Chew-Z", as shown in Dick's novel 'The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch'.
