Masan City

The first of many cultural observation drawings in Korea. From this I plan to build up a new body of work based on my view of life and the culture here, showing facts in text beside each image.

Korea

Hello dear world.

It's been quite some time since I uploaded anything new but I've just recently moved to Korea. Shock horror. And it's naturally taken some time to adjust.
I'm over here teaching English for a year but plan to produce new work themed around a cultural study of the country as part of my ongoing goal of eventually getting into reportage illustration.
Just a reminder that my latest book published in November 'We Could be Heroes' is fully viewable on my website, and all images are available to buy as prints.

Kraftwerk

9 of 10 of my ongoing series. Nearly finished. I'm going to play around with some online publishing tools to see if I can get the group of images together in book form.

Visage and Boy George

I'm pounding along at the moment, getting quite a bit done so I've managed to finish off 3 of the images I was working on just last week. Not bad considering I'm currently between jobs and waiting for a visa to process.
The latest two are Boy George and Steve Strange of Visage. I'm producing 10 images in all, and I've got 2 left to do before I sit down and refine them again.

David Bowie - Thin White Duke

More 70's/80's madness. This time Bowie's cocaine addicted 'Thin White Duke' period, during which he was said to have spent up to 3 days awake, painting, reading and recording at a time. Needless to say once he had cleaned up he had practically no memory of this time, roughly around the recording of Station to Station in 1976. He went to Berlin shortly after where he recorded Low, in an attempt to get his act together. Iggie Pop joined him in a similar practice.

David Sylvian

This time around I've drawn David Sylvian from Japan, a relatively under-rated band who's 1982 hit 'Ghosts' was popular due to it's minimalism and total lack of drums.

Kiss

What can I say? They were massive fun to draw. I'd been working on the separate images a while ago and decided I'd finally put them together. Really had a lot of fun with it.
It's been a while now since I've uploaded anything. Don't particularly enjoy being quiet, just had a lot on, enjoy!

Philip K. Dick meets Palmer Eldritch

Philip K. Dick meets Palmer Eldritch.
A couple of biographies 0n the man's life state that this really happened, but during Phil Dick's writing of The Man in the High Castle he was so strung out on amphetamines that he actually saw a giant gas mask in the sky. He believed this to be the embodiment of one of his own characters, Palmer Elditch, a malevolent God who seduces people into his own universe with the drug "Chew-Z", as shown in Dick's novel 'The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch'.
Anyway, this was such an awesome image I couldn't really help myself.

Germinal Illustrations

I've been at this for a while now. It's an ongoing personal project illustrating Germinal by Emile Zola.
I've had these sitting around for a bit because they take ages to dry and I didn't get around to scanning them in for a while, but here you go.

This week continued

Don't ask me why, some sort of underground love robot. Enough said. Most of the enjoyment was gained from doing the pointlessly small blocks of line in between sections.

This week

Bit of current work for the week, started out as some life drawing but I then added a backdrop to create this image.

Philip. K. Dick

New piece of work in a small 2 part series about one of my favourite writers, the one and only Philip K. Dick. I got the idea from an excellent biography I just finished reading about him detailing his life.
For those of you who aren't familiar with him, I suggest you get acquainted, even if you're not into science fiction. From what I gathered reading the biography his work is his life and for the most part the characters and situations featured in his novels really happened, just not in the context of a Mars space colony.
Anyway I could spend hours and hours talking about him, here's the work.

Resting on your Laurels

Finally got the other half of my Laurel and Hardy project to show. Took a good while to work this one out.

Contribution work

Bit of new work, contribution to a student media film for some students at Royal Holloway University. Black and White and Colour. Been quiet for a while but I've been working on a series of woodcuts for 'Germinal' by Emile Zola, should have those up shortly.

Olivers

Bit more developmental work. Don't have a full image to show as of yet but you can see the theme here. Stay tuned for more.
He was a nightmare to draw, although his partner is even more difficult. Love that chin though.
