Zarganar

Definitely an interesting name. In Burmese it means 'tweezers'. He's one of Myanmar's most famous comedians and has been arrested continuously since his involvement in the 1988 uprising. Now he's serving a life sentence for speaking out against the regime repeatedly, although his 59 years were reduced marginally just recently.
One of the articles I was asked to produce something for contained a section about him so I thought it would be worth doing a portrait in a prison setting.

Exploitation of Myanmar (Burma)

Second illustration for this month's Groove issue showing the exploitation of Burma by China. One of Burma's biggest exports is electricity but they have daily power outages because the average Burmese citizen gets little or no aid from the government.

Junta soldiers

Got my latest set of briefs from Groove magazine. Here's the first of 3. It's about the funding of the Daewoo international oil project in the Bay of Bengal in relation to the Burmese Junta military. Apparently Korea gives 103 million dollars a year to Burma but none of it goes to humanitarian aid. Most of it goes in oil projects and export and into the hands of the military generals.

Groove magazine

Here are the articles from Groove magazine where my work was used. Got my issue in the post today so that was great. Already got my articles for next month to start on so big thanks to Matt Lamer for keeping me on as in-house illustrator.

100 illustrations

My favourite Korean/Japanese fusion dish for the 100 illustrations project on food.
